Meta enhances Muse AI with email and video chat features

Meta announced on Thursday that its Muse AI agent will soon have its own email address and will be able to video chat with users. The updates roll out across the companyโ€™s internal tools and will be available to developers first, with a public release slated for late next month. Muse, the AI companion that can draft emails, schedule meetings and answer questions, now can send and receive messages directly from its own inbox and can join video calls in the same way a human colleague would.

The move comes as Meta pushes AI into everyday work and social life, following a wave of competitors that have released more capable digital assistants. Googleโ€™s Gemini, Appleโ€™s Siri updates, and Amazonโ€™s Alexa with ChatGPT integration have all shown that people expect AI to handle routine tasks and communicate in natural ways. By giving Muse a personal email and a video presence, Meta is turning the bot from a background helper into a frontโ€‘line collaborator that can manage email threads, coordinate calendars, and even hold meetings. The company says the new features are built on its LLaMAโ€‘powered models, which already power other Meta products, and are designed to respect privacy and user control.

Users who have tested the beta report that Muse can now reply to emails in a style that matches the senderโ€™s tone, set reminders, and even propose meeting times that fit everyoneโ€™s schedule. When the videoโ€‘chat feature launches, the agent will appear in a small window during a Zoom or Metaโ€™s own meeting platform, answering questions or summarising discussion points. Tech analysts note that the ability to have an AI โ€œpresenterโ€ could reduce administrative load, but they also caution that the technology may blur lines between human and machine communication. Meta has said it will keep the agentโ€™s voice and visual style customizable, so it can look like a human or remain clearly synthetic.

Looking ahead, Meta plans to open the Muse API to thirdโ€‘party developers, allowing businesses to embed the agent into customerโ€‘service portals, projectโ€‘management tools and even gaming platforms. The company will also roll out privacy safeguards, giving users the option to delete all data the agent collects. If the updates go as smoothly as the beta suggests, Muse could become a common fixture in offices and homes, shifting how people schedule work and communicate. The next few months will reveal whether the new email and videoโ€‘chat capabilities can live up to the hype and truly change the way we use AI assistants.
